7 Quick Takes

{1} This crazy heat is sapping all my energy and desire to do anything.  I've taken the kids to the pool a handful of times this week.  I'm thankful for my air conditioning.  I'm praying for the people fighting the Colorado fires and for all those affected by the fires.
{2} Despite my lack of energy and desire, I had fun taking my kiddos to our church's Little Angel program several mornings this week.  Little Angels is like VBS for the younger ages.  My friend who organized and led it this year did a FABULOUS job!  And, I got to meet some new moms and make some new friends :)
{3} I also got outside to water the garden a couple of times.  My efforts in the heat have been rewarded!  I harvested some lovely tomatoes :)  This is the first lemon cherry tomato we picked a week or so ago.

{4} So pretty!

{5}  The best breakfast (when making a smoothie will wake everyone up) when it's hotter than Hades

Toast with avocado smashed on top and sprinkled with salt and pepper.  Also, tomato slices on top makes it yummy too.
{6} Another fun baseball season has come to an end...thankful we don't have any games in this crazy heat!

{7} Watching this relationship grow has beautiful and frustrating at the same time.  He loves her to the moon and back...which means he wants to play with her ALL THE TIME (that means he likes to wake her up!), he wants to carry her around, he wants her to wrestle with him.

This Morning

This morning:

• kids slept in while I gardened, enjoyed a cappuccino, and some quiet reading time
• bowls of cereal and homemade GF currant scones for breakfast
• sprinkler time
• now, boys are watching Ace of Cakes, Clone Wars Cakes~that as much Star Wars as I'm letting them have lately :)
• P is enjoying some b.

What We Are Up To

Some of what we've been up to...

baseball (both with real bats and balls and gloves as well as imaginary),

 playing chess and other fun games,

eating lots of fresh fruit (Penelope seems to be living on blueberries alone!)

and gardening.

Yesterday we made our Summer 2010 poster. We're ready with lots of fun things to do and places to go.  Today we were able to check off several things...Slip and Slide, reading, laughing, game of tag, playing games, and Legos.  Of course many of these will be done repeatedly this summer.  :) 

Window Box How-to

 Have you ever wanted to add a window box under your windows?  I have! They look so gorgeous overflowing with flowers. 

I saw a link over on Just A Girl for a place called Hooks and Lattice and fell in love. I even ordered a free catalog to peruse.  Oh my, they are pricey!  Then, I found this little tutorial over on How Does She.  She even gives the prices of the materials needed...the entire project was under $5!  Now, that I can afford and it looks like a simple enough project to start and complete.  Check it out and add instant curb appeal.

Earth Day 2010

I don't normally get into Earth Day, but this year I did :)  Last night I saw this fun blog, Bloom, and on there I found this cute tin can pot and knew I had to do that too.  So this morning (going totally off of just seeing the picture on Bloom and not reading the craft instructions on the other site) I grabbed a can from the recycling box, put some fresh soil in it, cut some herbs from the garden, sprinkled in some water, snapped a picture and called it done.  :) I know the can needs some holes poked in the bottom and a layer of small rocks under the soil, but I was also thinking that these cuttings would be transplanted by a friend in to her garden, so I skipped those steps.  I'm thinking a set of these would be charming on a pretty windowsill (of course with a plate underneath).

 The picture was taken right after I planted it.  The oregano has since perked back up and all 3 herbs look great. :)  Now picture these with some colorful little flowers in there too....  Makes me happy!
